Selling guide

How to sell a car on Facebook Marketplace

A quick local sale — no fees and no waiting for registration.

Best for

Sellers who want to sell quickly near where they live and don't need nationwide reach.

Fees

Free — Facebook doesn't charge for listings in the Vehicles category.

Reach

Over 5 million active Facebook users in the Czech Republic; local reach within a radius of your chosen location.

Pros

  • Completely free, no extra sign-up (a Facebook account is all you need)
  • Your ad goes live the moment you post it
  • Messenger — direct, fast communication with buyers
  • Local targeting — buyers in your area
  • Sharing to Facebook groups (regional car sale groups) boosts your reach

Cons

  • More scammers and dealers posing as private buyers — extra caution needed
  • No structured fields such as VIN or service history
  • Buyers are generally less serious than on specialist portals
  • The algorithm favours fresh listings — you need to renew regularly

How it works

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open Facebook Marketplace

On Facebook, click the Marketplace (shop) icon in the left-hand menu or go to marketplace.facebook.com. Choose "Create new listing" and the "Vehicle for sale" category.

  2. 2

Upload photos — at least 10

Marketplace uses the first photo as the thumbnail in the listings, so pick an attractive exterior shot. Add photos of the interior, dashboard, boot, engine bay and close-ups of any defects. Honesty cuts down on pointless questions.

  3. 3

    Fill in the structured fields

Enter the year, make, model, condition (excellent / good / fair / non-runner), fuel, gearbox and mileage. These fields are indexed — without them your ad won't show up in filtered searches.

  4. 4

    Write a specific description

Mention when the roadworthiness test (STK, the Czech MOT) expires, the number of owners, service history and minor defects. Put your phone number straight into the description — Messenger is convenient, but some buyers prefer to call.

  5. 5

    Share to local groups

Look for Facebook groups such as car sales in your region or town and share a link to your ad there. One ad in 3–5 groups multiplies your views at no extra cost.

  6. 6

Screen enquiries — watch for red flags

Turn down offers to pay through an intermediary, requests to ship the car via a transport company, and buyers with no profile photo or a brand-new account. Always meet in person for a viewing and never hand over the car without cash or a verified bank transfer.

  7. 7

Renew your ad every 7 days

Facebook's algorithm favours fresh listings. Every 7 days, reactivate the ad (the "Renew" button), or delete it and post it again — that puts you back at the top of the listings.

Rather not deal with it?

We'll sell it for you.

We take the photos, list the car on several platforms, talk to buyers and handle the paperwork. You just hand over the keys.
