Favourites and comparing cars

CarnadoCarnado team

When you look for a car you usually end up with five open tabs and notes on paper. Favourites and comparison put it all in one place.

How to mark a car. In the search results or on a listing detail, click the bookmark on a car that caught your eye. In the header at the top you then see how many cars you have in your favourites. A second click removes the car from your favourites.

Where to find them. On the page Favourites and comparison you have all the marked cars together. From there you open the listing on the seller's site, remove individual cars or clear the whole list.

Comparison. Pick up to four cars and see them side by side: price, year, mileage, power, equipment and source. For numeric values we highlight the best one, so you see at once which car is the cheapest or has the lowest mileage. Comparison is for signed-in users, registration is free and the cars you mark stay saved after you sign in.

Where favourites are stored. In the browser where you marked them. On another device or in another browser you won't see them. The list is capped at roughly fifty cars and the oldest drop off when you exceed it. If you clear your browser data, the favourites disappear too.

How to use the comparison. It pays to compare cars of similar age and engine. If you compare four Octavias, the price difference is usually explained by mileage, equipment or body type. If one car comes out much cheaper for no obvious reason, ask the seller why. You can also compare cars from different countries and sources. Prices in a foreign currency are converted at an approximate rate.

The data is a snapshot. For a favourite car we remember the details from the moment you marked it. If the seller has changed the price or sold the car since, the comparison may not show it. Always open the listing on the seller's site before you set off for a viewing.

What next with the chosen car. Take the pre-purchase checklist to the viewing and compare the price with the market in Price trends. If you want to watch similar cars, save the search as an alert.

Is there a detail missing in the comparison, or would you like favourites on all your devices? Write it here, we decide what to add based on interest.
